We collect as little as we can, and we never sell it. This page sets out what Silica Works collects when you use this site or get in touch, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

Silica Works is an independent creative studio. We are responsible for the personal information described here. For anything on this page, write to hello@silica.works.

What we collect

  • What you send us. If you fill in the brief on the contact page, we receive your name, email address, company, what you need, your budget and timeline, your message and how you heard about us. If you email us, we receive whatever the email contains.
  • Basic server records. Like any website, the server that hosts this one records each request it handles - your IP address, browser type, the page asked for and the time. These records are used to keep the site running and secure.
  • Nothing else. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no profile of you. We do not set cookies - see the cookie policy for the details.

How we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry and talk about your project.
  • To prepare a proposal and, if we work together, to deliver the project, invoice it and keep the records the law requires.
  • To keep the site secure and to stop spam and abuse of the contact form.

We use your information because you asked us to (replying to your enquiry and taking steps toward a contract), because we need it to deliver work we have agreed, because the law requires it, or because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. We will never send you marketing you did not ask for.

Fonts from Google

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser asks Google's servers for the font files, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details. Google does not set cookies for this. Its use of that information is covered by Google's privacy policy.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with the services we need to run the studio - our website host, our email provider and, where one is used, the service that receives the contact form - and only so they can do that job for us. We will also disclose information if the law requires it.

Some of these services may store information outside your country. Where that happens, we use providers that protect it to the standard the law requires.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not become projects: deleted within 12 months of our last conversation.
  • Client records: kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, then deleted.
  • Server records: kept for a short period by our host, then deleted automatically.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it, where we do not have to keep it by law;
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • send it to you or to another service in a common format.

Write to hello@silica.works and we will reply within one month. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, loads no third-party scripts and restricts what the browser may load. Access to enquiries and client information is limited to the people working on them. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you send us.

Children

This site is meant for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
